Update
Dr. Swift didn't really have much to say about Mia's condition, yesterday.
The bad news? Well, Mia's 4th ventricle is enlarged, indeed. Evidently, it has been enlarged since she was a baby; it is isolated from her other ventricles (and I assume that, usually, there is communication between them), which is why it is enlarged. It appeared from the CAT scan that it was not more enlarged than before, but that kind of scan is not detailed enough to tell for certain, and at the end of the visit the doctor seemed to think that there could be a problem. he is ruling nothing out.
The good news? Dr. Swift was not terribly concerned. He said that he has several kids out there with enlarged 4th ventricles. Her balance issues could be related to her growing, etc. Although, as I said, he is ruling nothing out, he does not want to see us for three months or so--were she in some danger, surely we would have jumped into action. He asked if she has been experiencing headaches or convulsions, and when we said no, he seemed to think she is relatively fine.
We were shamed because we have not been patching her good eye, as good parents would. Her "bad" eye needs to be made stronger, and patching is a common, pain-free way to help it out. I re-began to patch her this morning; her first word after I patched her eye was "arrrrrgggghhhhhh...I'm a pirate!" She is fine, just fine...!
